Title: Looking for a new ISP. Any suggestions?
Post by: NightWolve on Jun. 24, 2006, 01:46:39 PM
Tired of SprintBroadband. Don't like paying $50/month anymore and having a stable connection these days has been a problem. Any particular ISP that someone would recommend? I'm looking for a $20-40 price range and I don't need it to be super fast. 1.5Mbps down/768kbps up is something I'd be happy with. I just can't justify $50/month with my limited budget anymore. Oh, and it's gotta be available in the greater Chicago area (if you have a good finder service to enter you phone number like for DSL, post the link). Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

That's interesting NW, I was thinking of switching to Sprint DSL because I have one of their boxes about 20 feet from my house... but it seemed expensive and I'd rather not use phone lines. I'm happy with my local cable service, supplied by the evil Time Warner. It sucked for about 6-8 months because my connection kept dropping (but never when it had a constant connection open for some reason) then I convinced them to let me trade in my 3 or 4 year old cable modem and it was all good again :)

3.0mbps down/384kbps up it is now. About 46$ a month but I must have a lowest-tier TV package which is about 6$.

Yeah, so far, there is Comcast, but I would have to get basic cable to access their service at a decent rate. There's a damn good 20 dollar DSL package from SBC/ATT for 3 Mbps down/768 kbps up, but we switched our phone service to another cheaper carrier so I would have to get another phone line and together it would cost me about 35 a month. I would've got it for sure if we were still with SBC though. Anyway, I'll keep looking and if not, maybe that is an option to take advantage of.

Cox/comcast has a $24 for 256k u/d. Sure it's not the fast, but when times are tight. I'll eat ramen soup 5 days a week before I go back to that again  :P  Ok, maybe not.
