Title: Ys II opens, goes to title screen, then goes to desktop
Post by: eastofjordan on Oct. 18, 2006, 09:52:16 PM: I have installed Ys complete and their accompanying patches. I was able to play Ys I with no problem at all, but when I run II all i get to see is the title screen with all the options. Once I click "Intermediate" (cause I like it that way) my monitor goes black and then I get the desktop.

Does anyone have any clues?

I read some earlier posts, and while I did find a problem similar to mine, it was never resolved.

So time attack works just fine, I bet if I had a save file load would work, too. It must be that movie file. Maby mine is bad? Could I get a link to one known to work, please?

Post by: Tigershard on Oct. 18, 2006, 09:57:31 PM: You are probably getting that error because you do not have the right codec installed to play the movie. The two ways to get around that are to either use the setup configuration that came with the english patch to turn off the AVI movie, or to find the codec. The codec is called IV50 I believe, developed by Intel.

Disabling AVI lets me play the game. Too bad I can't see the movie.

I downloaded the IV50 codec, and I installed it. No change. I'll play around a little bit, but at least I can play the game. Thanks.

I had/have a similar problem. My game always crashes if I enable the AVI. Even though I have the right codec now, the game still crashes instead of showing the video, but atleast now I can watch the video seperately.

This happens when the downloading of the new translated AVI doesn't go well. Maybe it's there, but you didn't let the download finish so it's in an incomplete state. Delete 'YS2_WIN\data\YS2OP_1.AVI' or 'YS2_CMP\data\YS2OP_1.AVI' and rerun the Ys II Patcher again. When it asks you about downloading the 15 MB translated AVI, choose Yes and let it finish. If it doesn't work that way, you can download it from here directly:

Also, when you're finished downloading, run the AVI and see if WinMedia plays it. If so, then the codec was installed correctly and it should run just fine next time around in the game. Oh, and uh, just to make sure, you are using this latest patch, YsII(US)v101.exe, right?

It seems the next patcher will have to be updated to address that. Korryuu's site is down it seems. Scratch that, her domain is gone. Looks like I'll have to rely on the other link to help spread that AVI.
