Title: Q: How do I avoid the bubbles?

You know the 1st boss that asked me to spell out Velagunder. After that it started throwing bubbles of letters.  I tried pressing the correct letter before and right before the bubble hitted me but none worked.

You don't need to use the SHIFT key. CAP LOCKS should always be off (If you updated your installation with the new DLL here (https://www.ysutopia.net/forums/index.php?topic=142.msg1474#msg1474) that will always be taken care of). Just hit the corresponding key. That should do it. If not, dunno what the problem is.
