Title: Ys VII ( or Ys ζ )... for the PSP...
Post by: NightWolve on Mar. 12, 2009, 09:42:24 AM
Falcom made official its plans for Ys 7 last Saturday (March 7th) at an event in Akihabara, Japan. According to 4gamer.net, it's slated for a fall release.

Update: Further information, sadly, reveals that both Ys VII and the Ys I&II Chronicles remake are targeted for the PSP platform... not PC. That rules out my interest... *sniff*

I'm fine with it as long as the game is well optimized (loading times !). I'm confident they'll do
something great. Maybe they'll change their mind and listen to the angry fans and also do a PC
release later ? (Who knows)

Since I have a PSP, I can't say I mind a PSP release(I would like to see it on the PC too). But does anyone know if they're planning on releasing it in multiple languages like they do with some games?

Also... Ys VII to come out on PC?  Sounds like it could!  [After PSP release sometime..., they announced it will be multiplatform [haven't seen it confirmed if it's PC though]

My reaction about the portrait artwork in Ys VII... I don't like it very much!  But, Chronicles for PSP features the ability to change between a new style artwork [simplistic] and the PC style...  So maybe the PC version of Ys VII will get all-new PC style portraits?

Hmmm...  It seems Game Watch Japan managed to get ahold of preliminary screenshots and artwork for Ys ζ.  RPGamer has mirrored them here:  http://www.rpgamer.com/games/ys/ys7/ys7.html (http://www.rpgamer.com/games/ys/ys7/ys7.html).

To be honest, I'm not too fond of the new artwork; I would have much preferred they recommission the artist for The Ark of Napishtim, The Oath in Felghana, and Ys Origin.  It looks as though Falcom is trying to cater to a younger crowd with the new art style.  Then again, the game is multiplatform and each version isn't a mere port of another, so it's entirely possible that the different incarnations of Ys ζ have their own development teams (including artists).

This version is entirely in 3D, as opposed to the 2D sprites on 3D backgrounds that we're used to.  To the looks of it, you can recruit party members and switch between them during combat (playable Dogi!).  The camera seems to be much more dynamic, pulling back and changing angle during boss fights.  It's tough to judge from stills, but the interface looks a little too cluttered for my liking.  In any case, I'll reserve my judgement on that until I see it in action.

At least the boss designs are looking pretty solid.

Since there are supposed to be multiple incarnations of Ys ζ (not unlike Final Fantasy XIII), I'll have to take a wait-and-see approach until we have more info...  Well, enjoy.

I think I'm along the same lines as you, and I'm hoping the PSP version vs the PC version? [hope there's a PC version ;)], will get different portrait treatments as shown by Chronicles example.

Why don't I just merge this. I think the subject can continue here.

Wow i cant believe how much that looks like a loh6 game.  what did they do put the loh team on Ys.  That is too bad. I hope they do have the pc version. also if they have a pc version i hope they stick to the sprites for the characters and 3d for the bosses. I think that was a really good combination.
