Ys: The Oath In Felghana / Re: xbox 360 controller modifications.
« on: Apr. 09, 2009, 12:36:53 PM »
There's really nothing 'special' about it, as it's just a plug n play device. You don't even need to install the driver, according to what I read before I bought it. However, you don't have rumble support without the driver and I don't think you you can remap the button layout. Not sure about that, as I just installed the latest driver before using it.

The only thing that sucks is that it does not have advanced features built-in, like keyboard mapping. And when adding controllers you have to unplug the USB cord first or it won't recognize the additional controllers.

The dpad can be mapped as directional, pov hat or buttons. Square and X detect pressure, depending on how you set the controller making it work 'ok' with racing games. Also has a DDR mat mode, for people who are into that. AND you can switch between digital layout or analog layout by using the actual analog button.

Well, that's the full rundown on it. In case you were interested. Personally I can't stand most PC Gamepads. Even the knockoff PlayStation inspired ones usually just don't do it for me. Mainly thanks to their shoddy dpad designs which make the 360s dpad seem flawless. :\

Although this topic is old and long covered, for anyone who wants to play with a controller and does not own a 360 or want to pay the 40-50 for a 360 controller, you can use a PS1/PS2 controller with a USB adaptor like the 4-player Super Joy Box 5 Pro.

I've got one, it's great! the controller buttons can be remapped similar to how PSXPad could be be back in the day and there's no hacking of anything. Just install the driver first, plug up to 4 controllers into the adaptor and stick it in an available USB port. Then remap the buttons however you like. Rumble even works.

Here's a short video review, from the place I bought mine from:I think it only set me back 15bux and used PS2 controllers are only 15bux at Gamestop, so it's also an affordable way to enjoy 4-player games like TMNT on MAME too. ;)

X-Calibar's remix OSTs are really sweet, I still don't get how noone told you before I did... But whatever, I loved them. They made playing Ys I&II over and over again very enjoyable.

It's good to see that your still around in some form Nightwolve. Shame the message board had to go thou. Personally, I would have just assigned board matinense to another soul. But it would not feel like your message board after that and that’d be creepy, in a sense.

BTW Nightwolve, have you ever consirered the possibility of starting your own small translation firm? With Working Designs calling it quits after all these years, there could be a market opening. ;) But that’s just my wishful thinking, I’ve been reading too many success stories such as the dawn of ADVfilms…

Anyway good luck with whatever title you may pickup next. I'm hoping it'll be either Ledend of Heroes VI or Xanadou Next. Since Konami haulted all work on Ys VI and I’m sure the same thing will happen if they get Felghana. :(

I remember DOA’s creator crying like a little girl about it, going far as to say it was like raping his own children, or something among those lines. I’m fairly sure no one was charged with anything, nor any legal action pursued.

So another warez kiddie made a threat, what’s with these people?!?! First they want everything free and then they’re threatening to report you for reverse engineering?!?! F**k them, last I checked reverse engineering wasn’t illegal. If it was, there would be no ‘designer imposters’ perfumes. Then again, perfumes never had to bow to the DMCA either...

I remember the Dracula X incident, now that you mention it. Yeah, it was one of the first games ripped with CDRWIN. Back then, I don’t even think his files were distributed as MP3s, only WAV format. He was directly encouraging piracy, not exactly the same thing as releasing a translation patch. But I’m not going to argue that, maybe one day you’ll release your work, even in it’s incomplete form to a couple loyalists such as I and that alone would be enough.

I’ve always liked Konami too. It’s kinda hard not to, when they made TMNT the arcade game, Castlevania, Contra, Gradious and many other timeless classics. And more importantly, they didn’t ‘bottom out’ after the 8bit and 16bit era, like some other great developers did.

I've been playing it on my PSP too, it's a very 'cute' title. So far I’ve only played it for 3hours or so and I’m enjoying every minute of it. When I picked it up, I was expecting a game similar to WindWacker, not a platformer. But I’m not complaining, just wasn’t what I had in mind when I originally saw the Japanese Falcom trailers for this game when it debuted on PC. Well, that and I never expected Falcom to release a platformer type game. The only complaint I have is that the camera angle gets messy at times. Too bad there’s no option to have a forced behind the person perspective view. So pick it up and show your friends, who will think your weird. But who cares what they think, the PSPs list of worthy games to own is slim is this is definitely one on that list.

Your shittin me, now I'm pissed. I'd love to cut off the balls of whoever had to fuck you over concerning the Felghana early-access donation period. I cannot stand to play that crappy PS2 port of Napishtim. With it's 30fps and interlacing, it literally hurts my eyes. I have yet to beat the PS2 version, in fact I haven't made it more that a 1/2 through the game due to eye strain, which lead to cumulative headaches. Buying Napishtim for PS2 had to be my video game worst purchase ever. At the very least, I figured that one day I'll be able to enjoy the story with the game on my PC thanks to all of your hardwork NW. But I guess that too is now crushed. Damn you warez kiddiez. Damn you to hell.

Wish I had an answer for you, as it works great for me. Used the install and removal files, then reinstalled it again. No problems here. You do have the proper language packs installed, right?

Not sure where I read it, but supposedly with the newest Falcom patch after you beat the game with Thor, Adol becomes unlockable in Time Attack.

Just like the headers says, I was browsing the net today and found a regedit which adds a applocale shortcut [for Japanese] to exe files, when 2nd mouse buttoned. Anyway, figured someone might want this little goodie for Japanese running games without all the hassle of loading applocale first.

Ys: The Oath In Felghana / Re: Challenging?
« on: Jan. 21, 2007, 06:48:59 AM »
Most of Felghana's bosses are not easy. I got owned by them many times, but I also rushed though the game. Also, YS I&II are easy, you probably did not spend enough time leveling up. Give it another try, one level can make all the difference.

Ys: The Oath In Felghana / Re: Typo
« on: Jan. 20, 2007, 08:17:52 PM »
found two, depending on how you look at it. not sure if anyone else has pointed them out....

SPOILER: for those who have not played though the game do not read.

NOTE: both lines are exactly as script dictates, print screen, gotta love it. should help spot these two lines easier. also, could not get an exact quote on the oh part, but the che-chester line is exact quote.

<Chester impales Dogi>

Dodi:
Che--...Chester...

Line prior to this, Dogi says 'oh', as he's stabbed. Wouldn't 'uhh...' or something similar fit better?

<Royal family is staying in Redmont>

Elizabetha:
Were it not for you, my husband would never have had this opportunity to repent of sin sins and make amends with those he has wronged.

'have had', isn't that redundant? 'had' should be removed, I think.

also, 'repent of his sins' should be 'repent for his sins'.

Lastly, much thanks to NW and Psycho DeuceBag, for all of your hard work. I enjoyed playing Felghana from start to finish and cannot wait for Napishtim's release.

16
NightWolve – good to hear that things are almost complete, thank you and all those involved once again, for all their hard work. And I’m sure that I’ll be saying that at least once more when VI is finished as well. ;)

Psycho DeuceBag – Thanks for the update on Ys V, I had wrote it off as a lost cause at this point. Good luck translating it, I for one look forward to finally being able to play it in English.

If I may make a suggestion NW, a link to Microsofts Applocal utility under 'downloads' would be nice, for those who never heard of it before. Among with a basic description, for DFUs. Just don't host it, because Microsoft now requires Windows Validation to download it. That should weed out a couple software pirates.  :P

General / Re: New projects

I doubt Bandai will touch ED6, but they developed the PSP versions of ED3-5, Falcom has nothing to do with the development of those titles.

well that explains the licensing for all three PSP titles, i had a feeling that it had to be something among those lines.

General / Re: New projects

Well, if you do deside to pickup another title after Napishtim and Felghana my recommendation would be Xanadu Next. Not just because I'd really would like to see it in English, but because I have a feeling that Bandai may pickup the rights to LOH6 and LOH6 part2. I say this because they already have rights for all 3 planned LOH PSP titles. Unless I'm mistaken they're actually co-producers of the PSP titles?!? Of course the possibility of them picking any other LOH title up will solely depend on the PSP titles success...

True, I did not notice anyone aside from Olha using in honorifics in Napishtim. But I did only play the PS2 version for only a short time.

Also, when a patch is done will it be based off the latest official Falcom update? I seem to recall a problem with the way later update patches worked vs earlier ones. As a result, the Korean fan-translation used an early Falcom update? It’s been sometime, so my mind could use a refresher.  ???

WOW, IF you really are creating this for yourself, I have to say that you have far too much time on your hands. I'll be monitoring Hongfire, the house of all pirated Asian things. If I see it there, I'll be very dispointed. And as a follower of NW's work I will PM him with a direct link. As for what happens next, that's outa my mands. Just remember message boards log IP numbers for a reason, nuff said.

This topic looks like some set us up the bomb, some serious flame bait here.  :P :P :P

Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim / Re: Translation?

Nightwolve: I was not aware that the script code did not yield enough information to distinguish between character and location. Shows how little I know about 'romhacking'.

Seldene: yes, I’m aware that Psycho DeuceBag translated most of Napishtim before Konami released their PS2 port. I was actually referring to the PS2 script as a companion, thinking that I’d be easier to cut and paste bit by bit, as needed. Instead of compairing a screen capture and retyping lines of script.

Well, the idea isn't even worthy of pursuit at this point, assuming they happened to use similiar script storage mechanisms. I'm doing just fine with the script injection mechanism I wrote, rather than having to rebuild 2,600 separate script files as is how it is stored originally. Plus, as I mentioned, I don't want a plagiarized work when Psycho DeuceBag had finished 99% of it.

Good point, about the plagerism.

on another note, are you going to call him ‘Sir Adol’ like Konami did? I thought it was a pretty good way of handling Olha’s ‘Adol-san’, since ‘Mr Adol’ would have sounded weird. And merely calling him ‘Adol’ with blushing avatars would not convey her respect for our red-haired adventurer.

Ys I & II Complete / Re: Files downloaded during install?

Nightwolve was a bit worried that the Ys II intro clip would kill his servers banwidth, where he to host it directly or include in the actual file itself. The videos only 15megs, but when you initially release something you've got over a thoursnd heads flooding your server, which adds up fast. ISPs tend to look down appon that sorta 'activity'.

As for Falcoms game patches being built-in, there may have been a legal issue. In general translations never accompany games or updates, so the way Nightwolve handled it was great IMO. Besides, each of the two patches are under a meg.

Oh, and don’t forget to install the ‘atlernative OST’, you’ll enjoy it far more than the ones Falcom included with these two games.

« on: Feb. 19, 2006, 07:22:55 AM »
Ouch sounds like a painful process, but at the same time it sounds like pretty good idea. From what I played of the PS2 version the script did appear to be very accurate, with no noticeable divergences. Of which I only know this because I can understand enough Japanese to actually follow the game in Jpn-dub mode without their English script. But I only played a little further the first boss before I could no longer look at the motion blur/tearing caused by 30fps and interlacing. So how accurate it stays I honestly can not say.

But I'm surprised that you did not copy the PS2 disc to PC with DVDecryptor and than attempt to dump the script off the ISO directly. Chances are that the script is encrypted, thou… :-\

In any case good luck and as always myself and the rest of us ‘Falcom junkies’ thank you, Psycho DeuceBag and everyone else involved in these projects.  8)

This is awesome, I’m so thrilled to hear that this project has been picked up again. Honestly, I don’t see releasing a translation having much, any negative effect Konami’s sales at this point. Those who wanted to play it so badly either went out right away and purchased it or ‘rented’ it at blockbuster or got it off p2p by now.

Then there are individuals like me who refuse to buy or have anything to do with a shitty stripped down ps2 game. 640x480 interlaced, couldn’t even add progressive scan support for a fast moving action game WTF? I don’t know how anyone can perform a time attack on that version without suffering some form of eye strain or even epilepsy.

BTW Is this going to be a re-translation or a ‘port’ of the Konami script? Or should I not ask... ;) ;)
