I've been thinking about this, since it doesn't seem too far away until another Ys game hits.  Maybe sometime in 2008?  A new remake of Ys I-II would still be awesome, as long as they reinvent Darm Tower again.  It could be another fitting tribute to the twenty year history of Ys, as Origin was.  My hope is that it will be Ys VII though, and feature in addition to an Adol Quest, a Dogi quest.  Whatever happens, it will be another outstanding experience.

Something I watched today I thought was pretty funny:

Legend of Zelda:  A Pain in my ass (Parts 1 & 2)

I would love to see Ys VII, but a remake of I & II is a close second.  Another pick would be Legend of Xanadu III.

I think the still screenshots make it look cooler than the actual footage.  Only time will tell I guess.
So how old was he when he did the Ys compositions?
There's an article that states he was recruited by Falcom at 18.
http://www.sega-16.com/Sega%20Stars-%20Yuzo%20Koshiro.php
In all the excitement, I told him what I liked about all the soundtracks I had with me, and I never asked him how old he was when he did Ys, though I mentioned loving Ys several times.  Really, I was a bit over excited probably.  It's pretty funny, I was quite nervous.  Picture a series of tables and sitting there nearly every game music composer you've ever wanted to meet.  If I have an opportunity to meet him again, wich could happen if I can go to Singapore, I'll try to speak to him more.

Oops, forgive me, it was 22, I don't know where the 18 came from.  I never wrote 18 anywhere else.  Maybe I was a little tired from work this morning.  His English was good, I wish I had more time to speak with him.  I was holding up the line with my CD stacks.  I really hope I can attend the upcoming Play show in Singapore, where Yuzo will DJ.

Hey GMF, I looked at your profile just a moment ago (the quickness of your online to offline status had puzzled me) and it led me to your blog. I see that you got to meet Yuzo Koshiro and Nobuo Uematsu? I didn't realize your screename actually lives up to itself to such an extent... Heh. Anyway, that's pretty cool in a super sheeky geeky kind of way you got the chance to, I must say. ;)

On Ys Online: This is the first I've seen of those screenshots and I like what I see.
Hey, thanks for checking out my page. :)  I'll be heading overseas to Stockholm this June when the Play tour premieres FF VI's Dancing Mad.  I should be meeting MP83 there, too.  Looking forward to it. ;)
Meeting Yuzo was awesome.  He said he was 18 when he did Actraiser, and I got some CDs/autographed.  He also asked me how I obtained them.  There are a lot of young pictures of him in the liner notes, and he stared at them for a while. :D

As for Ys Online, I'd love to give it a try, given the chance.  I hope the soundtrack is good.

Ys I & II Complete / Re: new ys site at falcom

I'm entering the illustration contest with MP83.  It's a drawing of Adol fighting Dark Fact.  Penciled and inked by me, MP83 is doing the coloring, and probably adding some way cool effects. ;)  I'm sure one of us will post it when it's finished.
Here's a link to some of my work:

Got it on Christmas Eve, and I'm playing with Yunica first.  I'd say I'm over halfway through right now, but loving every minute of it, especially the bosses! :)

Ys Origin / Re: Ys Origin

I preordered and since it didn't arrive on the 21st, I'm expecting it today. That's assuming it was shipped on the 21st, like their e-mail said.  Every time I have ordered from Falcom the package always arrives in two days.

I'm hoping Ys Origin arrives on Saturday 12/23.  I will be playing the heck out of it if it does.  Other than that, I'm looking forward to plenty of rest, visiting my mom and catching up on various projects.  I have no idea what gifts I could be getting, maybe some clothes. :)
I hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

If Falcom continues shipping to other countries early like they have been recently, hopefully many more of us will be playing it tomorrow too.  :)

The latest Seinfeld DVDs just came out, too.  Sales aren't going to be good for that I think.

I just got an order accepted message.  Did anyone else get it yet?  I'm guessing yes.

Well I really appreciate that! :)
Looks like everyone who preordered shortly after the official site opened, all got a reply around the same time.  That's pretty cool.

Finally got the preorder reply from Falcom just after midnight, so I sent my "I'm ok" message.

That looks like a great deal!  Enjoy!

Sakuraba's probably most known for being the composer of the Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile series, and being a major contributor to the "Tales" series of RPGs.  His current work is Tursty Bell:  Chopin's Dream, and he also scored Baten Kaitos I & II.  Older works include Shining the Holy Ark, and Mario Sports titles, among many others.  His specialty is progressive rock.

Sakuraba's official English site can be found below, hosted by Cocoebiz:

Well, it was worth it to me as an Ys collector.  I've purchased the game four times now.  It features English and Japanese modes, but you still need a Japanese or modded PS2 to play it.  Also included is the Konami Special Sound CD, but it has more drama than anything else.  A few good music tracks are still there.  One more item included is a nice book with character illustrations.  I can post pictures if you're interested.

« on: Oct. 15, 2006, 05:23:27 PM »
Both Legend of Xanadu games are very playable with good enough guides.  Gamefaqs has a good one for Legend of Xanadu II.  As for the first game, if a guide is unavailable, I'll be reviving an old but good one soon.

I got it now, I just right clicked the game icon and went to properties, and clicked the compatability tab.  Then, "run in  640 x 480 screen resolution."  I saw NightWolve explaining how to do it for Typing of Ys. :)

Is there any way to enlarge the screen size for these?  I have the originals, but it was bugging me when I played the PC versions that the screen size was very small.

Wonderful game, I had memorized many pieces of music from it for many years. I liked the field music a lot, it's really a classic game. :) Now I really want to play it again.

General / Re: How and when did you discover Ys? and...
« on: Mar. 24, 2006, 09:22:23 PM »
:)  Being an established lover of RPGs and game music thanks to the NES, when the TG16 hit I went after a lot of games for that system.  One game that I loved for it was Dungeon Explorer.  Then the CD/Duo upgrade came and I found Ys.  It's funny, I don't remember buying it, just that it was there.  I probably bought it because I knew it would at least be a new adventure game.  That was the first time I had heard voice acting in a game.  Then I played Exile, and was even more impressed.  When I played Ys though, the music was so magical for me.  I could not get over it.

Eventually I had gotten my hands on the Sega Master System version and I hated it so bad, because it wasn't like the TG16 one.  What was I thinking?  I don't know!  I was still pretty young.  All I can say is, Ys just captures your imagination so well, only those who have played it understand it.  Now I've played more than a few versions of the first two, and finished all the other chapters in the series too, but I always go back to that TG16 version at least once a year.  I could go on forever, but I think that about sums it up.

Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys / Re: Vote for your favorite version of Ys IV!
« on: Mar. 23, 2006, 01:46:46 AM »
I was wondering if they did remake Ys IV, would they just take the numeration out like they did with Oath in Felghana?  Or would they also change the title like Oath as well?  When we first heard the title Oath in Felghana we all knew it had something to do with Ys III.
Now I'm curious if a new Ys game would have some sort of "keyword" that would tip us off to it being another Ys IV remake or not.  Selceta, perhaps?

I can't imagine playing anything on a cellpone, I think the only game I could stand would be Tetris.

Good luck, I am fascinated that things like this are possible.  I love this game and I'm ready to take on the Second Chapter as soon as it hits.
