Ys: The Oath In Felghana / Re: Adol don't change his costumes

He only changes outfits when you have a complete set. So for example if you get all of the Battle equipment and put it on together you'll get that sprite for him instead of the default.

Pretty much everyone got those within the last day or so.

They are very swamped right now and sending a new email will probably not get you a response any faster.

Oddly I sent them an email about this myself and did not get a reply back yet. I think I used a different email than the one above though (order_h19@falcom.co.jp).

Well, that was for two games, and their shipping is real fast. So it's not really a bad deal for the cost, but it is still expensive and some people can stand to wait longer if it lowers the cost.

Speaking of this subject, Yahoo email no longer seems to support Security with their email service. Don't ever send an email with your CC info in it when it's unsecured... make sure you check before you send it.

If you are running in 640x480 with details all down and you still can't get this game to run smooth, buy a new computer. Yours must be incredibly ancient. You can get a pretty modern machine for ~800$ or less that will play this game just fine.

Thanks, that's just the info I was looking for.

How does the game figure out what you've 'unlocked'? I just moved to a new machine and I want to be able to start on Nightmare, do I just need to copy the save files or do I have to actually load up a save and finish it on hard?

Edit: Guess I can probably just figure that out myself now that I think about it.

Turn VSync ON if you don't have it there already. The game seems to have some weird glitch where if you leave VSync off, it will get very choppy when some effects are going on (like the water in the first area). The frame rate will still be in acceptable numbers, but the screen will not update properly. It's pretty weird.

Turning the resolution down is going to be your best bet. After that, turn off anti-aliasing, and turn your texture filtering to Bilinear if it isn't already. You might also turn down dynamic shadows and the shader effects if you have to.

YsO seems to be a lot more demanding than YsF.. I could run YsF on highest resolution with everything turned up and be fine, but I run on one resolution down from highest in YsO. I still get some monster slow down in certain places too. In a few areas when running around outside the tower is the firey landscape in the background, it will chug down to 30fps or worse, for no real explainable reason.

The game also drops down to 20fps every time I open the store menu (might have to do with high-resolution text being on).

Falcom sadly didn't design the game to really run in 16:10, so it just uses a 4:3 view and stretches it instead of actually using a 16:10 view. Adding 16:10 would probably require them to change the camera code to make sure you didn't see off the edge of areas.

Did they fix that in YsO?

It also depends on what degree you are going for. I went for CMSC, and most everything related to computers comes pretty easy for me, so I didn't really need to study much for any CMSC classes. Other classes needed a lot more work though (stupid Japanese).

Everyone learns differently though. Some people just pick stuff up easy, and some people need to study a lot to get anywhere.

I spent a lot of time playing games in college and still did well. It's mostly just about time budgeting and knowing that work comes before play. Too many people don't take classes seriously enough, especially in their first year.

Ah, yeah I just wanted to make sure the official art book came with the works too and wasn't a separate order. Thanks.

I'm about to order this through Falcom ... but can anyone explain the extras that can/do come with it? I want to get the big 120 page art book, does that come with it or is it separate?

Does the secret boss have anything to do with the story or is it just there for fun?

Ys: The Oath In Felghana / Re: Missing Texture?

More specifically... why this would have anything to do with loading just one specific texture.  ???

Cool that you figured it out though.

16
Cool, thanks for the help. I'll give it a spin when I get home.

Edit: Yup, works fine.

I've actually never messed with the font sizes or DPI settings before, but it's possible Dell could have done that when they setup the laptop. The font sizes were set to Normal size, but I didn't check the DPI. I will when I get home... but yeah this is probably the problem.

Well, I also didn't have Falcom's patch installed until the translation installer did it for me, and that would be a more likely cause. If Nightwolve's patch doesn't touch textures at all, then I would bet it was probably Falcom's patch that messed up.

I'm more than half tempted to try this on the desktop here to see if it has any of these issues. Would be pretty strange if it was the laptop, since nothing else I've ran on this (which is a LOT) has had any weird troubles.

Ys: The Oath In Felghana / Missing Texture?
« on: Jan. 08, 2007, 09:41:43 PM »
A texture seems to be missing after applying the patch, I'm certain is was there before the patch. It's the floor texture for the base where you get the dash ability item. Screenshot is attached.

Has this happened to anyone else? Doesn't seem like something the translation patch would break ...

Yeah I checked the resolution and it didn't help to change it.

Did you write the config program yourself or did you just modify it? It looks like a bug with how the window container is calculated to me. Can't really say where the problem would be without seeing the source code though (I do know it's in C++, heh).

The other thing is that my Blood setting is a toggle and not a slider like in the first screenshot. Did that change or anything?

All in all it's a pretty minor thing, since I setup my controls in the japanese config and I just hit the 'high' settings for graphics. Would be good to fix it if possible though.

WinXP Home SP2. Game runs fine and the Japanese setup ran fine under AppLocal.

Just to get any other info out of the way, I'm on a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop with a GeForce 6800 Go on it (running 1440x900, widescreen). I wouldn't rule out the hardware doing something weird, but this kind of a bug looks like something odd going on with the window container/frame.

22
The window for the setup util is messed up after the patch, I've attached a screenshot. Sorry if this is old/common. :x

I think the idea is that when the mouse cursor is hovering on the game window, it slows the game down. In full screen mode, you can't move the cursor anywhere that wouldn't be in the game window. It sounds video card or DirectX related to me honestly. Some old games have toggles for mouse pointer options (such as no hardware accel. mode).

There is some random little app that will force your mouse to be contained on a certain area of the screen that you specify, and if you could find it, you could tell it to keep the mouse cursor off of the game window. But I looked for it for a while and couldn't even find a name for it. That's kind of a bootleg solution anyway.

Alternatively, you can just buy a new PS2 > USB converter from Radio Shack. The new ones (solid black) are really good. However, I don't really suspect that's the problem. Do you have the same frame rate issues without the gamepad device plugged in?

You might check your video card drivers to see if they are up to date (rarely ever hurts to keep up to date). Also you should check your DirectX Dialog to make sure your drivers are OKAY and working fine. You can also try checking and tweaking the settings in your DirectX Control Panel (which you can download here).

Just threw you a donation too. I played through 1&2 just a short while ago and loved them. Started playing Oath, and it's definitely different. I've noticed a definitive lack of save points in dungeons, and it has made me very paranoid. :/
