Inferno mode and elena costumes
« on: Feb. 18, 2007, 10:29:36 PM »
Just restarted Y's felghana after an year, and patched up to the latest version, which means inferno mode (as well as a blasphemous very easy mode) was added. So, i was about to take a crack at inferno, but was wondering..just what is different? New boss patterns or just the good old inflated cost and stats? I am kinda sick of the cost angle after that nighmare of a nightmare mode, but it would be worth it if enemy/boss behavior also changes.

Also, as for elena's costumes, does inferno mode unlock another costume? afaik, there are 7 costumes, but in a pic on the gamefaqs forum, there appear to be 8, with one being the Elena (schoolgirl) costume. Any idea how that one is unlocked, assuming of course that it exists?

7 costumes: http://rigg.servegame.com/translations/ysf/images/

I extracted the raw PNGs from the Setup utility and had uploaded them there. If there is an eighth PNG, I don't know where it's coming from because it's not inside the Setup utility.

strange. This image is probably a hoax then:

then again, they might have added it when they added inferno mode?

It's a hoax. And notice it's not selected - they'd then actually have to go to the trouble of image editing in a whole other costume in that case.

Psycho DeuceBag and I are responsible for those translations. There was never anything to translate to "Elena (Schoolgirl)." There are only 7 translated options starting with "Elena." So, I can end your mystery right now for you... There isn't any.

What a lame hoax at that. Just zero creativity to it. Whoever did it should kill himself. Like now.

Yeah, i noticed. I mean, if anyone would know, you (and Psycho DeuceBag) would. I was momentarily tricked because the "schoolgirl" type dress would be so typically japanese. That and hoping inferno mode had a reward.

Is there anything in inferno mode that makes it worth playing? Nightmare's hard enough for challenge seekers. I heard that there was an extra boss....is that true?

I activated Inferno mode from the very start to play the game at the maximum difficulty. I'm at lvl 55 and I have yet to beat Galbalan... I either have to improve my strategy with some more practice on him or go through the annoying process of gaining a few more levels. It's at that point where it takes forever to earn another level, so I've given up for the time being. As it stands right now, I don't know when I'll get back to finishing the game on Inferno. It's been a long time.

Cool! how do you access him?

As for inferno mode, well, seeing as even nightwolve cant beat it, i'll probably only play till this secret boss. I harbor no illusions of beating him though...............

The secret boss is after the credits, from what I hear.  Also they auto-level you to 60 for the fight as well, apparently.

Am I the only one that finds Elana's Adol costume completely terrifying? I mean, idolizing Adol is one thing, but dressing up like him and forgetting to wear pants is just plain wrong. The only thing slightly more horrific is that there is also a Chester costume.
I would display an emote here, but I cannot seem to find one of a face melting off in horror.

I don't personally care for it, but I wouldn't use the word terrifying. I think I just hate that Adol costume period. The Chester version is alright though.

Nothing beats the original dress, or the one used for Elena in YsF.

while we're at it, if you replace a save file with another, is it possible to keep your previous save files? cause it seems like all the save files are packed into one file and there's no way for you to delete anyone that you don't like.

you can always copy your saved files to another folder and just have a empty save folder, that what i do when my save slots get packed.

For Felghana? No, they're not packed. Each save slot corresponds to one .nacci file. They start from 0, so slot 1 in the game will be saved to/loaded from "ysf_00.nacci". Slot 2 will be "ysf_01.nacci" and so forth, up to the 64th slot ("ysf_63.nacci").

If you wanna keep the previous files, make a subfolder in your save folder (by default that's "%userprofile%\Application Data\FALCOM\ysf_win" - the path that I bolded btw can be pasted in explorer's Address bar at the top and it should take you to that exact folder) and move them in there. Then you can have another folder for the current ones and switch around. It's trivial to get around this.

How does the game figure out what you've 'unlocked'? I just moved to a new machine and I want to be able to start on Nightmare, do I just need to copy the save files or do I have to actually load up a save and finish it on hard?

Edit: Guess I can probably just figure that out myself now that I think about it.

Ah, speaking of that, I actually made a checkbox for you in the final patch if you want to unlock everything (Nightmare, Inferno modes and all the debug mode cheats), so you'll notice that.

But to do it manually is a matter of editing the ysf_win.ini file (in that save folder) in the [game] section.

Code: [Select]
[game]
GameClearFlag=3
GameClearFlagNightMare=1

That change will give you access to everything, Inferno too. If the entries are already there, just edit to them be 3 & 1, etc.
