Whoops, OK site is back.
« on: Jul. 22, 2006, 02:24:47 PM »
No-ip deletes the custom DNS registrations in your account after a few months if you don't log in and check on them. Well, I was doing that (even though I don't have an Internet connection from home anymore) at my friend's house, but it seems it still deleted the host nick.serveblog.net -> "ysutopia.net". No matter, I was able to reobtain it so the site has returned...

Anyway, I'll provide a little status update. I had to cancel my service with the ISP I've been with for 4 years. I was about to get DSL service from my local phone company, but the deal fell through unfortunately. Long story short, I tried to subscribe right when all available slots were completely filled, so the whole order had to be cancelled even though I thought I'd be back online in a week since July 13, I believe. So, yeah, now I gotta find another provider.

In other news, I'm still working on the remodeling project and I'd say I still need a few more months to finish up. As such, the Felghana & the later Ys VI patch are on hold until I a) finish up with the remodeling and of course b) get Internet service again... Also, I have a nice update for TurboRip that I'm working on from time to time. The new version will have CD-TEXT support, multi-session support so it'll be able to handle those CD-EXTRA music audio discs and I also learned how to correctly detect indexes by reading the subchannel Q information off a disc. Whereas before I went by the assumption of a 3 second pregap for a transition from an audio track to a data track for a PC-Engine/TG-16 game disc, it turns out, you can actually detect that. It'll just take more work and will slow the extraction process down, but it'll increase TurboRip's compatibility with other game discs out there. TurboRip's turning out to be a nice hobby so I'm having a little fun for the hell of it to see how good it can be made basically.

Anyway, that's all for now kids. Hope you're having a happy summer. :)

I faithfully checked every other day for this site's return... YAY!

Great news about TurboRip, NW :)

Also, good luck with the remodeling! I trust you'll be relishing every moment spent on it :)

I haven't done any major stuff recently, except getting things nice for the "Open House" shenanigans I had to endure (my home went on the market recently) .

Our garage had the crappiest, oldest, nastiest door on it, and I installed a new one. It actually wasn't nearly as tough as I thought it would be. Cleaning out the garage, on the other hand --- well, *that* was a MUCH more work than I thought it would be.

Anyway, the house is sold (well, the deal doesn't close until the end of the month... but hopefully nothing crazy will break the deal) and this tuesday I'm driving cross-country in a Uhaul and towing my car.

I should be packing right now, but of course I'm on my computer :(

YAY! For procrastination.

Heh, I had to do that recently. I got the idea of well since it's a new garage for two parking spaces and I'm the only car, I might as well rent the other spot. I found a tenant on June 28 after putting a for-rent sign up a few days earlier. Got him for the 70 bucks/month I was asking for with $140 upfront (with deposit) - how's that? (I was willing to go $60 if neighbors or friends found me someone trustworthy, but since that wasn't working out, I had to use a sign. As such, I raised the price up another 10 to discourage the wrong kind of prospective tenant, if you know what I mean, from showing up.) Only thing is since I've given him the other clicker, I have to worry if he accidentally leaves the door open which incidentally has happened once already.

Anyway yeah, I moved or threw out some of the stuff that was collecting in there, then brought in the electric blower and made both parking spaces good as new. Just blew out all the debris towards the alley. Heh. That saved a lot of sweeping, I'll tell ya. :) Eventually, the rain took care of the alley, so no harm no foul... ;)

The forum hates you?  I just clicky the quote button on the top right, otherwise it appears to be use bbcode, so it should be quote with front/end [] brackets and then close it with a forward slash before quote with the same brackets.

Code: [Select]

Cool, I'm back online with ATT/Yahoo DSL for about $30-32 a month. I just finished connecting the phone line on my end as well as the modem they sent me. Pretty smooth. The modem was sent 2nd day air, so I received it Wednesday after successfully completing the service order on Monday! It's 50 bucks, but it came with a 50 rebate which I already mailed, so it's effectively free if all goes well.

So yeah, I got the one year commitment package for a 1.5Mpbs/384kbps line at a $14.99 monthly rate, then add the $~13 or so for having an AT&T phone line, that'll come out to about $30/month - Not bad. Anyway, now it's time to head over to dslreports to test how fast the line actually is. :)

EDIT: OK, I'm getting the following:
Quote
dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-07-29 00:05:58 EST:
1257 / 320
Your download speed : 1257 kbps or 157.2 KB/sec.
That is 42% worse than an average user on sbcglobal.net

Your upload speed : 320 kbps or 40 KB/sec.
That is 21.7% worse than an average user on sbcglobal.net

Much better upload speed than I've ever had. I'm happy with it, especially given the affordability.

EDITx2: Latest testing results:

Quote
Download = 1.303 Mbps
Upload = 329.02 kbps

:)
