Running Turbo CDs on PSP
« on: Feb. 20, 2006, 04:46:41 PM »
Hey. Hope anybody else who doesn't know how to rip a Super CDROM2 to a format usable by the PSP PC Engine emulators will benefit from this topic. After I try out some of your suggestions I will post my progress later tonight...

Question 1: What format is a TOC file? Is it a simple text file? Do I just format the table of contents as you've shown and then save as a text file from my text editor with an extension .toc?

Well, let's take it from the top. Since you said you own an original DraculaX game, I attached a utility in one of them that'll let you rip it to ISO/MP3 format. But anyway, let's recap all the steps of what I said in the emails as well as fill in the blanks on what needs to be done to accomplish this:

1) Insert the DraculaX CD-ROM into your best CD-ROM Reader drive.

2) Download the attached utility cddissect_v1.2.rar. (This relies on ASPI btw which I hope you already have.)

3) Extract the cddissect_v1.2.rar file to the C:\TEMP folder (Make a C:\TEMP folder in explorer if you don't already have it).

4) Open a commandline prompt, type "CD C:\TEMP" and press enter. Your prompt should now be "C:\TEMP>".

5) Next, type "cddissect dracx" and hit enter; It'll then prompt you with choices, 1, 2, 3, etc. Try 1 and if that fails, re-run the last commandline and try 2, etc. (That's the ID of your CDROM device. When you pick the right digit, it'll start ripping the game to an ISO/MP3/CUE file set.)

If you picked the correct drive, it'll begin ripping the CD and progress will look something like this:

(In my case, I picked 3 to get the right CD drive)

6) You now have files dracx01.mp3, dracx02.iso, dracx03.mp3 ... onto ... dracx22.iso. That's 22 files in total. Now you must rename each of them to, 01.mp3, 02.iso, 03.mp3 ... 22.mp3. OK, in case that's not clear, the file list you should have is:
Quote
01.mp3
02.iso
03.mp3
04.mp3
05.mp3
06.mp3
07.mp3
08.mp3
09.mp3
10.mp3
11.mp3
12.mp3
13.mp3
14.mp3
15.mp3
16.mp3
17.mp3
18.mp3
19.mp3
20.mp3
21.mp3
22.iso

So in each case, you renamed a file like "dracx01.mp3" to "01.mp3", "dracx02.iso" to "02.iso", etc. You can go back in Windows Explorer to do the renaming obviously - You're done with having to use the DOS Command-line console.

7) Make a TOC file called "dracx.toc" with notepad and copy&paste this in it (for all other games, this TOC data can be obtained from http://necstasy.emunova.net/):

Track 01 Audio 00:02:00 LBA=000000
Track 02 Data 00:53:65 LBA=003890
Track 03 Audio 03:11:14 LBA=014189
Track 04 Audio 04:57:48 LBA=022173
Track 05 Audio 06:00:67 LBA=026917
Track 06 Audio 07:37:09 LBA=034134
Track 07 Audio 09:00:61 LBA=040411
Track 08 Audio 10:05:35 LBA=045260
Track 09 Audio 13:03:60 LBA=058635
Track 10 Audio 14:47:28 LBA=066403
Track 11 Audio 17:28:05 LBA=078455
Track 12 Audio 19:09:58 LBA=086083
Track 13 Audio 21:40:18 LBA=097368
Track 14 Audio 24:07:69 LBA=108444
Track 15 Audio 27:47:51 LBA=124926
Track 16 Audio 30:13:10 LBA=135835
Track 17 Audio 33:28:56 LBA=150506
Track 18 Audio 34:58:29 LBA=157229
Track 19 Audio 36:40:49 LBA=164899
Track 20 Audio 38:40:50 LBA=173900
Track 21 Audio 42:42:12 LBA=192012
Track 22 Data 46:58:62 LBA=211262

8) Make a folder named 'dracx', move all files ISO+MP3+TOC into it and then copy it (the whole folder) to your Memory stick; best place is likely your /PSP/ROMS/ folder on it.

9) Connect the stick back to the PSP, start up the PCEP emulator and load any normal game (ROM), such as Gunhed or Ninja Spirit.

10) Then go back to the menu again, choose "cd change" and browse for the TOC file (your "dracx.toc" file in the dracx folder you placed somewhere like /PSP/ROMS/, etc.).

11) Select "card change" and now browse for the "Super CD-ROM2 System V3.00 (J).pce" ROM. (That's also attached at the bottom of this post.) When the "PUSH RUN BUTTON" screen boots up, press the START button, and cross your fingers after that. If it works, congratulations!

-------------------

OK, that's what I've gathered for you so far through my contacts, experience and google. Good luck!

If you can get on Instant Messenger, I can more quickly help you on this privately.

EDIT: OK, re-read the whole 2nd post again if you would. I updated the instructions once again. For one, I was wrong about having to ZIP it; you make a folder 'dracx' or something and place all the files inside it, and send that to the memstick. Yes, TOC is just a text file; use notepad. Just start over and re-read the whole 2nd post. :)

All is good. Thanks for all the help. Both current PC Engine emulators (PCEP and HuE) for PSP will run the game fine, but HuE has no music, only sound FX. Now I'm working on the rest of my TurboDUO library.

For anyone that happens to run into this thread, you should be aware that I succeeded in making a working tool for ripping an image directly into a usable format for Sony's PSP system that's far easier. Check the TurboRip thread for details. You simply run it with the /psp option, and it'll do all the rest, so the instructions in this old thread right here are mostly obsolete.
