Give me a few days. I'm working on a little commandline program that'll instantly rip a PC-Engine/TG CD-ROM to an ISO/WAV/CUE file set for easy patching and use with daemon tools. I think this will help you when it's ready for release.

Oh OK, good. That's better actually. I will have more time to write up the ReadMe before I release TURBORIP. Otherwise, I could've just given it to you privately for use, but this is even better. Congrats.

How did you burn it? What did you burn? ISO/WAV or CUE/BIN or something else? Need more info on that.

Are you playing it using the real hardware or are you using DAEMON Tools?

If you're using DAEMON Tools, right click on the tray icon, select "options" and check the "Analog Audio" option if it isn't.

No, he said in the first post it works fine with daemon, but no music when playing a CD-R.

Try burning it with demo versions of other software, Adol. Alcohol 120% is a very good burning program. You can also try CloneCD, or Fireburner, etc.

http://www.alcohol-software.com/

There is another possibility actually. You playing the CD-R with MagicEngine or real NEC hardware? If it's with MagicEngine, I wonder if you have the right cable connected to your soundcard.

Well I use magic engine (don't have a nec).
I have alcohol 120%.  what's strange is I use daemon with an image. works fine.
I burn this image and if I play it , I got sound but no music...
well it's not important. I made a rar file with the the 4 YS games and burn it on a dvd.
no worries.

Did you install that CD device? There's a cable that goes from your CD device to your soundcard that's important. I wonder if you have that connected, if at all.

Here's what you should test: Insert any Music CD you might have, run EAC, and try to play any audio track. See if you can hear the music.

EAC is freeware. Download it here:

Also, check your Magic Engine config file, I've had the same problem but I fixed it by correcting the CD settings in that file.

Yeah, about that config file setting... I can't find it anymore with the latest PR10 version. I believe that was the cd_audio_input_line option, no? I would guess MagicEngine handles that automatically now.

Oh right, Adol, open up that log.txt file and paste the contents here. That can tell you a lot to help solve the problem. Particularly, the sound init section. Here's mine:

Quote
[SOUND INIT]

Not sure about the cd-drive running to the sound card approach since my cd-drive is internal and Magic Engine plays Xak I&II PCE fine, but I've been having some trouble getting Xak III to work.

For the longest time I was playing Xak III fine on the MednafenX emu, which is basically an updated version of Hugo for the Xbox. This emulator plays the game perfectly from the .cue sheet with audio mp3s, but when I take the same files and either burn them to disc to play them off of a cd in Magic Engine or simply play it using Daemon's Tools it always freezes Magic Engine directly at the title screen. I'm not sure what else I can try. I really want to get this to work since I would like to take some higher quality screenshots from the game using my PC.

Thanks for your time,

-SkyeWelse

Try another virtual CD program like Nero or Alcohol 120%.

I tried that, but I think it was due to the fact that the audio files I was using were in MP3. After converting the files back to .wav it seemed to do the trick. Finally! Now I can get to work...

Thanks for your help,

One last thing: If you converted the MP3 files back to wave and wanna use the image with MagicEngine, you need to run my TocFixer program on the wave files to resize them properly.

https://www.ysutopia.net/index.php?ind=downloads&op=entry_view&iden=4

Daemon Tools does not support a CUE file with references to MP3 files inside, and MagicEngine doesn't have any direct support for them. You need to either mount or burn an ISO/WAV/CUE file set, but before that, run TocFixer so that all wave files will be restored to the original file sizes they had before they underwent MP3 encoding. If you didn't do this step, the game can crash or suffer from lip syncing issues, etc. when used on real NEC hardware or MagicEngine.

Example:

Yeah there were lip syncing issues when I played it, so I'll use your program to try and fix it. For now though I'm happy with finally being able to take good screenshots from the game. I need several for a project I'm working on. Thanks Nightwolve.
