Keyboard problems with Ys 1
« on: Mar. 21, 2006, 07:10:37 AM »
Hi. I just installed the game and applied the patch with apparently no problems. Until I started the game, that is... It started in the main menu, where the game barely reacted to any input via keyboard.

The problem became clear once I started a new game: Adol keeps walking to the upper left for no reason. I haven't had any trouble with my keyboard lately and haven't found any options in-game that fix this, so I'm asking: Has anyone experienced similar problems with the game? Any other tips? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and this only seems to be happening in Ys 1, part 2 is working fine...

Does this still happen after a reboot? Do you have a gamepad or any other type of joystick plugged in? Try removing it if that's the case and/or disabling joystick support from the options. Other than that, this is not a common problem at all. I dunno what to tell ya.

Oh right, you say your keyboard is good, well, get it to the point where you see Adol moving towards the upper left all the time, and at that point, unplug the keyboard to check if it still happens.

You break my record, now I break you, like I break your friend!

Whew, fixed it.

Turns out I had some stranger input driver installed from a time when I was looking for a tool to map keyboard strokes onto the buttons of my emulated PS2 pad (I've been unsuccesful so far, so if anyone happens to know a solution... ;) ). I deinstalled it and now it seems to be running fine.

Anyway, thanks for the startingly quick reply. :)

Try using JoyToKey...

If you're looking to map keyboard strokes to gamepad button presses, I recommend using JoyToKey.  You can save different configurations for every game or application you use with it.  I use it to enable gampad support in games that don't natively have gamepad input, and to turn L2 and R2 into emulator hotkeys in VisualBoy Advance.

Both the program and its manual can be found here: http://www.electracode.com/4/joy2key/JoyToKey%20English%20Version.htm
