Ys I&II Complete issues
« on: Mar. 25, 2006, 11:14:19 PM »
Hello. I'm fairly interested in the Ys games and I decided to pick up these two games as a way to start the series. I've tried to play the other ones, but... well, Ys III. And I have this thing of wanting to see a series in chronological order. Soooo, yeah.

Anyways, with Ys I, this is related to the alternate soundtrack. I can't seem to get it to work. Wants me to put it into a wave_44 folder, but that wasn't made when I installed the games :/. Anyone here know what the deal is with that?

Also, Ys II flat out won't work. I set my computer to Japanese for non unicode programs, and it won't start up. I turn it on, it gives that black screen games give when they're loading fullscreen, and then just automtically quits. No error message or  anything, it just won't work. Anyone know the problem there too?

Sorry if this is a little bothersome. Thanks in advance.

Yes, if you got the Limited Edition with 22khz waves, it wasn't made. So just make it yourself. It should be either:

YS1_WIN\WAVE\WAVE_44

or

YS1_CMP\WAVE\WAVE_44

Put the archive in there, extract it, and run the batch file and that should do it.

For Ys II, that's not enough info to help. See if it made a LOG.TXT in the YS2_WIN/YS2_CMP folder and paste the contents of it here next time you reply.

Compiled: Jul 10 2001 10:02:04
Exec: 2006/3/25 21:3:50
DirectSound: DSERR_GENERIC
->CreateSoundBuffer

That's what was in the LOG.TXT. Hope that helps.

And I got the soundtrack to work. Thanks a million =)

Try the config utility and turn off sound and see if that works. Also, fiddle with your hardware graphics accelaration mode. Check the ReadMe from the patch in your YS2_WIN/CMP folder. If your acceleration is too low, the game crashes upon startup, if too high, AVIs don't work well. Usually, that's the case. So maybe that's worth a try.

Oh yeah, some more ideas. Run YSE_CNF.EXE, make sure EAX is off and also try the Sound effects are buffered option. But before that, check "Directsound is not used" and then run the game to see if that at least lets you start it up.

*tries some of that* *checks the log*

Seems I'm missing an important file.

Compiled: Jul 10 2001 10:02:04
Exec: 2006/3/26 12:32:20
error: failed: File not found[DATA\ys2op_1.AVI]

Any idea where I can find that?

Yeah, run the YS II patch and it'll download that. Let it finish. That's the opening AVI. You must've cancelled while it was getting the new one and it had the file deleted or something. Maybe you installed this manually and didn't copy it.

If not through the patcher, the links are these:

     WWW1:   http://kou-net.org/temp/moovee/YS2OP_1.AVI
     WWW2:   http://www.digitalsloth.net/ys/YS2OP_1.AVI

None of these links work, and the other one mentioned on the install (http://gillianseed.free.fr/video/YS2OP_1.AVI) does not work either... do you have any other link to download it from?

Thanks!!

There are no other links and these are the only valid ones:

http://www.digitalsloth.net/ys/YS2OP_1.AVI
http://gillianseed.free.fr/video/YS2OP_1.AVI

I just tested them and they both work for me and I would guess everyone else. There is a problem specific to you unfortunately. What browser are you using and exactly what is happening? Try right clicking one of the links and selecting "Save [Target] As" rather than left clicking it.
